Ekofocus Wildlife Consultants has been offering wildlife and ecological consultancy and management services to owners and managers of wildlife areas, game farms, game ranches and eco-destinations in Southern Africa since 1994.
The owners, Gert and Nanette Fourie are excellently qualified for their fields of operation, with a wealth of practical experience on more than 200 projects between them. The other members of their team represent expertise over the whole spectrum of wildlife management in Southern Africa.
Prospecting study of land

Mapping
No development should take place, or any attempt at management be made without a map reflecting the infrastructure as well as the natural and physical characteristics of the land.
This is a fundamental phase, as one cannot formulate practical plan without all the necessary facts at one’s disposal. Proper mapping is crucial to any successful management program.
Veld condition and carrying capacity assessment
This survey will determine the condition of the soil, the grass basal and crown cover, the grass species composition, woody species composition, and volume of browse available to animals.
Each one of these factors are dynamic, and differ from one location to the other on the same farm.
The combined potential of all these factors determine the carrying capacity of the land.
Management planning of game and other fauna
The specific species and numbers that can be introduced to the land will only be known once the potential of the land has been determined.
Identifying and managing red data (endangered fauna) is of crucial importance from a conservation perspective; while correct sex ratios, population control, parasite control, and additional feeding is important from an optimal utilization perspective.
Management planning of vegetation
Rehabilitation of the vegetation (veld) of previously over-utilized 
veld (like cattle farms) to pristine, well structured and diverse vegetation should be a primary aim of any land owner of a game ranch or wildlife area.
Bush encroachment, poor grass cover, and grass species composition should be dealt with on a priority basis. Selective bush clearing is a costly exercise, and requires specialized planning. Selective bush clearing programs, fire control programs as well as fire damage restoration are important services offered by Ekofocus Wildlife Consultants.
It is important to take note of the fact that the aim of veld management may vary from high productivity to high bio diversity, depending on the objective of the game farm owner.
Monitoring
Nature is dynamic and changes constantly. Without a proper management programmer in place that measures changes in all areas – especially veld condition – it is difficult (if not impossible) to apply adaptive management to prevent deterioration and ensure progress of the land.
Especially for those owners who generate an income from the game and wildlife industry, monitoring is non-negotiable.
